Bow Saw

This is a link to a Google 3D SketchUp drawing for a bow saw. It excels at cutting curves; the blade allows for long strokes that cut much faster and more evenly than a coping saw. You will need the SketchUp software to download this drawing and its freely available online. We do not provide support for this software. Not all drawings have the measurements displayed but you can use the measurement tool in SketchUp to easily and accurately determine the dimensions of each lumber part. Most drawings do not have instructions, its assumed you can build it based on the completed drawing provided.

3 Onion Boards Downloadable Yard Art Woodcraft Pattern PDF

These are simple cutting boards, made from scraps of 3/4 inch pine. They are excellent for cutting onions and garlic to keep odors from your regular cutting board or use as trivets for hot pots. We also cut from 3/4 inch maple to use as serving bread boards, cheese boards (good gift with crackers and cheese), cutting sandwiches, etc. Leave them unfinished or use a salad bowl finish. This is three patterns...Pig, Strawberry and Fish. It may look confusing, but its simple to see once you start tracing a line. Beginner skill level using a scroll saw.

Rainbow Trout Downloadable Scrollsaw Woodcrafting Pattern PDF

This fishermans fretwork scroll saw design is of a rainbow trout jumping out of the water. This pattern is very delicate and must be cut and handled very carefully. A spiral blade will minimize turning the project and small detail lines are much easier to cut. Cut small details last to minimize vibration. Intermediate skill level.

Each bowl begins as a section of a log, chain-sawn to rough shape and screwed onto the faceplate of my homemade lathe. Next they are turned using gouges and/or boring bars, and sanded smooth while still on the lathe.

Bow, Sapling

For your sapling bow projects: Try to find a straight sapling of some hardwood about 2 inches thick where the handle will be. If you can find or borrow a saw, that will help you cut the bow staves and will work out better than chopping and breaking them off at the base.

Noahs Ark Woodworking Plan

Our new Noahs Ark project has been one our most enjoyable scrollsawing projects to date. Not only is it a wonderful display project but its durable enough to play with while at the time time teaching young folks about the Biblical story of Noah and his Ark. Overall, our full size patterns will guide you on building the Ark, along with the family of Noah and 30 assorted animals and birds. Make sure you look at the image slideshow (button is above). The Ark is shown here built with an assortment of hardwoods, nothing is painted, but that is not to say you cannot paint. The roomy ark a door that comes down to act as a loading ramp for the animals. The impressive designs allows for the entire half of the full to fold down to reveal two full decks of animal corrals. The house structure on top lifts on both port and starboard to reveal more stalls and perches. You can add wood buckets, barrels and bales of hay too. A unique part to this design is the cupola on top pivots around to reveal a colorful rainbow and a dove perched on top of the cupola with an olive branch in its mouth. This Noahs Ark project can be made almost 100 percent from wood. A small amount of hardware is needed and is detailed in the plan. While this is an ambitious scrollsaw project, it will in time to prove to be one of those true heirloom projects.
