The K2 telephone kiosk is arguably the most iconic British telephone box of all time. K2 stands for Kiosk 2, and was the second booth to be deployed around London. That was in 1926. The K2 design was the result of a competition in 1924. A design submitted by Giles Gilbert Scott was selected but some of his specifications were changed, such as color, materials used, and a few other minor details. The original K2 Telephone Bx was made out of cast iron, was 3 ft 6 inches wide and deep, stood 9 ft 4 inches in height and weighed about 2756 lb (1250 kgs). It took over from the K1 (Kiosk 1) which was a concrete structure. Today the remaining K2 Telephone Boxes in London, UK, are beautiful landmarks and are mostly protected Grade II Listed Buildings; the grade II category meaning that the building are of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them. I, along with many others think the red British K2 Telephone Box is a marvelous structure and we all want on on our property!
