So this is what I came up with as a cheap, simple, accurate, and portable, router table solution. It is a sort of a cross between an article in the April 2005 Popular Woodworking magazine, a basic design by Pat Warner, and of course my own humble design skills round out the plan and bring it all together.

If you do not have a router table yet, it is simple to build and will make a big difference in the work you can do with your router. It also makes a great portable table, or for those times when you could use a second table in your shop so you do not have to change the setup on your main router table.

If your shop is anything like mine, then space is at a premium. One easy way I have discovered to save space is to use a 30-gallon trash can as my router table base. It saves space by combining the trash can and router table, and it also serves as the chip and dust collector for the tool.
