Workshop Sawhorses and Shaving Horses

Sturdy sawhorses that fold to an ultra slim 2 inch thickness for real space saving storage. Opened, they provide a sturdy 31 inch height work surface with a wide centre shelf. Make from 3/4 inch thick lumber and 1/4 inch thick plywood. This woodworking plan provides full size illustrations, exploded view diagrams, lumber layouts and instructions to make the projects shown.

Strong sawhorses that disassemble fast for little storage. Ideal for moving to a job site (even in a compact car). To create two sawhorses, just over half a sheet of 3/4-inch plywood is needed. Bungee cords are shown holding the components for carrying, although they are not necessary since the project can be lifted and moved without them needing to be disassembled. Full-size images, exploded view diagrams, lumber layouts, and step-by-step directions are all included in this woodworking plan. The project is 33-3/4 inches tall when complete.

Chris Swingley got some really rough plans for his saw bench project (his other plans are much more detailed than this sketch). The project is so simple, you really only need the appropriate dimensions and a couple photographs of the shape and joinery. He made his saw bench by jointing and laminating quite a few pieces of pine recovered from an old shipping crate. Doing all that sawing, jointing, laminating, and planing flat really builds confidence for building a more sophisticated project out of more expensive wood!
