If you love having a family pizza night, we show you how easy it is to craft your own pizza boards using laminated pine. Plus, you can add your own personal detail with a Dremel VersaTip soldering iron.

YOU WILL NEED:

Laminated pine or hardwood 400 x 800mm (to make 2 boards)

Nail or chain and length of string

Howard food safe butcher block oil

TOOLS:

Drill/Driver plus assorted bits

Jigsaw and clean-cut blade

Multi- or orbital sander plus 120-grit and 240-grit sanding pads

Tape measure and pencil

OPTIONAL: Dremel VersaTip

HERE'S HOW:

1. Draw a 170mm diameter circle onto your boards. Find the centre and hammer in a nail and attach a length of string or chain to draw a perfect circle.

2. You also need to draw handles for the boards. To do this measure the handle length 100mm from the edge of the circle and mark using a pencil. See diagram below. Once you have drawn all the lines - freehand the curvature of the handle.

GOOD TO KNOW

It is important that the handle goes in the direction of the wood grain to make it more stable.

3. Clamp the board to your workbench and cut out the shapes with a jigsaw.

4. Sand all the edges with 120-grit sanding pads and then sand the entire board with 240-grit sanding pads.

5. This step is completely optional, but if you want to hang your pizza board, drill a hole and thread a cord.

6. Adding detail to your pizza board is easy if you have a Dremel VersaTip. Draw out your design and use the VersaTip to burn this into the wood.

7. Wipe clean and seal your finished pizza boards with Howard (food safe) butcher block oil.
