You read that right!!! We built this coffee table with only TWO tools. Want to know how? Keep reading about this two tool coffee table:

Our 18-volt miter saw…

and our 18 gauge brad nailer! So we are calling this coffee table “Table for Two”!

Not only is this a two-tool project, we also built it with only 13 1×4 boards, which means we spent about $65 in lumber! Download the FREE Printable Plans HERE and come hang out with us in our shop as we build this Table for Two! Click HERE or the image below to watch!

How easy was that?!

Now for the tutorial!

After making our cuts, we built the four table legs by attaching two leg pieces together, so that they form an “L”. We used 1 1/4″ brad nails and wood glue.

Next, we attached a short apron piece to the edge of both legs. Make sure that the apron is attached to the side of the leg, without the seam, and that it is flush with the edge of the legs. We used 1 1/4″ brad nails and wood glue.

Then, we attached the bottom short apron piece, 3″ from the bottom of the legs, the same way.

Once both leg assemblies were complete, we attached two long apron pieces to the legs, with 1 1/4″ brad nails and wood glue. The long apron should be flush with the short apron pieces. We did the same for the bottom, long apron pieces. Make sure they are flush with the bottom, short apron pieces.

To attach the supports, we used 1 1/4″ brad nails and wood glue. We attached them from the outside of the top apron pieces and into the supports.

The final step in the assembly was to attach the top planks. We started with one side and worked our way to the other. We used 1 1/4″ brad nails and wood glue. Make sure to attach the ends of the boards to the apron pieces

and into the supports.

The final step was the finish! We used two coasts of Rust-Oleum Chalked spray paint in Charcoal. Then, to get the light, distressed finish, we used our Ryobi Corner Cat sander with a 120-grit sanding pad. We just ran the sander across the edges and corners of the table. (Note, you can use wood filler to fill the nail holes, before painting. We like the distressed look so we left the holes). You can find the Chalked Spray Paint HERE on Amazon!

To protect the finish, we used two coats of Rust-Oleum Chalked topcoat, in matte finish. This will go on white, like glue, but it dries clear! You can use a paint brush to apply the topcoat. You can find the Chalked Paint Top Coat HERE on Amazon!

That was it! 13 boards, 2 tools and 2 Shanty Sisters later… We have our Table for Two!

  2. Made this lastnight as a date night craft with my husband. I shortened it to 24.5’ x 36’ to fit my living room and only needed 12 1x4x6 boards. Took about an hour to make, sanded and stained today. We love it!!

  3. Just finished mine tonight! Built it in a few hours and then did the finishing the next day. I decided to go with the wider planked top, luckily I have 2 extra 1x8x12 left over from replacing fascia boards. I loved how easy this went together and how sturdy it is despite only using brad nails and wood glue!

          1. I’ve been watching your videos over a year or so and gave me great idea’s. Do you young ladies have a link for building coffee tables. Keep up the great work
