How to build a plant stand

Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the project is to build the legs for the plant stand. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to mark the cut lines on the 1×6 boards and to get the job done in a professional manner using a saw. . Smooth the edges with fine grit-sandpaper.

Fitting the top supports

Fitting the top supports

Build the supports out of 1×3 lumber. Cut both ends of the supports as shown in the diagram. Fit the supports to the legs and secure them into place using finishing nails and glue. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure the corners are square.

Add glue to the top edges of the structure. Align everything into place with attention and make sure the edges are flush. Insert 1 1/4′ brad nails to lock the top to the structure. Leave no gaps between the components.

One of the last steps of the project if to create the shelves for the plant stand. Fit 1×1 cleats to the interior faces of the stand. Drill pilot holes, add glue and insert 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the cleats are horizontal.

Attach the 1×2 slats to the cleats, in order to make the shelves. Place the slats equally-spaced and secure them into place with 1 1/4″ screws or brad nails.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the project and to protect the wooden garden swing stand from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain.
