With a few pieces of molding and some glue, you can craft these handy card holders for family game night. Add bonus points if the kids decorate and personalize their holder! (And don’t forget to share the pics with us!)

Cost: $4

Time: 30 Minutes

Difficulty: Easy. Just cut the parts and assemble with wood glue.

Tape Measure

Miter Saw or Handsaw

Hand Clamps

(1) ½” x ¾” x 4′ Trim Board

(1) ¼” x 5 Hobby Board

Wood Glue

¼” x 5 Hobby Board Base – 1 @ 9 inches (the “actual” width of a ¼” x 5 board is 4½ inches)

½” x ¾” Front and Back – 2 @ 9 inches (ends mitered at opposing 45-degree angles)

½” x ¾” Sides – 2 @ 4½ inches (ends mitered at opposing 45-degree angles)

½” x ¾” Dividers – 3 @ 7½ inches

Steps

1. Cut the Dividers

Using a handsaw or miter saw, cut the Dividers and ¼-inch hobby board to length.

Tip: I used my DIY Safety Cutting Jig to cut the Dividers and to miter the Front, Back and Side pieces in Step 2. It gave me a clean cut without risking my fingers on the Miter Saw.

Using the cut list above, miter the Front, Back and Sides pieces to size with opposing 45-degree miters at each end.

3. Attach the Outer Pieces

Apply wood glue to each mitered piece, and then clamp it in place on the Base. The pieces should create a rectangular border on the Base that’s flush with its edges.

4. Insert the Dividers

Apply wood glue to the Dividers, and then place them between the Sides. Adjust the Dividers until there are equal gaps between the Dividers and between the Dividers and the Front and Back pieces. Clamp all the pieces in place, making sure not to slide the parts around. Allow the glue to dry before finishing with paint or stain.
