Building a mudroom locker
Building the frame of the locker
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the mudroom locker. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the components out of 1×12 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the yellow components and secure them to the sides by insert 1 1/4″ screws.
Building the drawer unit
Next, you have to build the storage unit. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to build the components out of 1×12 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the vertical components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are right-angled and leave no gaps. Align the edges with great care before inserting the screws.
Fitting the drawer unit
Fit the storage unit to the frame of the locker and secure it to the sides, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the sides of the storage unit and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the sides of the frame. Add glue to the joints. Use a spirit level to make sure the storage unit is horizontal and make sure the corners are right-angled.
Fitting the middle partition
Build the partition out of 1×12 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slat and secure it to the structure with 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure you place the partition to the middle of the locker, for a professional result.
Fitting the front trims
Continue the woodworking project by fitting the 1×2 trims to the front face of the locker. Drill pocket holes at the top of the vertical trims and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the horizontal top trim. After locking the trims together, we recommend you to secure them to the frame of the locker using 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Add glue to the joints and make sure the edges are flush.
Fitting the top trim
Next, install the top trim to the mudroom locker. Drill pocket holes along the edge of the trim and secure it to the top component, using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joint to enhance the bond of the components. Align the edges with great care before inserting the screws.
Fitting the back of the locker
Build the bottom trim of the locker out of 1×3 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the slat and use a jigsaw to get the job done. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth. Drill pocket holes at both ends and secure it to the side trims using 1 1/4″ screws. In addition, drive a few brad nails into the frame of the locker.
Fitting the back of the locker
Build the back of the locker out of 1/4″ plywood. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheet and get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and secure the plywood panel to the frame using 1 1/4″ nails. Align the edges thoroughly and leave no gaps between the components.
Building the drawers
Build the frame of the drawer out of 1×6 slats and the face out of 1×8 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the side components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the front and back components. Leave no gaps between the components and make sure the corners are square.
Fitting the bottom
Build the bottom of the drawers out of 3/4″ plywood. Drill pocket holes along the edges and fit it to the frame of the drawer. Make sure the edges are flush and insert 1 1/4″ screws through the bottom into the frame of the drawer.
Fitting the drawers
After assembling the three drawers, we recommend you to fit them to the storage unit. Make sure you wax the bottom of the drawers, so they can slide in and out the opening. Fit appropriate knobs to the drawers that match the style of your interior design.
Fitting the hooks
Fit hooks to the vertical partition, on both sides. Align everything with great care, if you want to get a professional result. Leave no gaps between the components, for a professional result.

Last but not least, we recommend you to take care of the finishing touches. In order to get a professional result, fill the holes and the gaps with wood filler and let it dry out for a few hours. Check if there are protruding screws and fix this issue, if necessary.
