Farmhouse Table Plans

by Ovidiu

This step by step diy woodworking project is about farmhouse table plans. Building a dinning table out of wood is easy, if you follow the diagrams and instructions described in this project. Don’t forget to invest in the best quality lumber you can afford (cedar, pine, redwood, oak), making sure the components are in a good condition. Take a look over the related plans, as there are many designs to choose from.

When joining the components together, we strongly recommend you to use pocket screws. Therefore, start by drilling pocket holes at both ends of the components and then add waterproof glue to the joints, before inserting the screws into place. Plumb the legs with a spirit level after each step, also making also sure the corners are right-angled. Add glue between the tabletop slats, in order to get a rigid structure. Building the frame of the table

Building the frame of the table

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the table. As you can see in the image you should build the frame using 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimension and lock them together with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws, after drilling pilot holes. First assemble the frame, then attach the legs.

Top Tip: Check if the corners are right-angled before attaching the wooden legs. Add waterproof glue to the frame in order to enhance the rigidity of the frame.

Attaching the supports

Attaching the supports

Continue the project by installing the tabletop supports, as shown in the plans. Work with attention and select the materials with great care, if you want to get a professional result. Place the supports equally spaced, to support the weight efficiently.

Top Tip: Drill pocket holes at both ends of the support before inserting 2 1/2″ screws into the frame of the table. Plumb the legs before installing the components into place. Drill pocket holes through the frame to secure the tabletop, later on.

Attaching the tabletop

Lay the 2×6 slats on a level surface before locking them to the frame of the table. Cut the slats at the right size and add waterproof glue between them to get a rigid structure.

Top Tip: Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into the slats, after aligning and centering them to the frame of the farmhouse table. Any mistake would hinder the look of the table.

Attaching the end slats

Attaching the end slats

One of the lasts steps of the woodworking project is to fit the end slats to the tabletop, as shown in the free plans.

Top Tip: Add waterproof glue  to the joints and insert screws from the bottom into the slats.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden farmhouse table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
