Wren House

Roof and house sides of the wren house are made of either ¼" or 5/16" apple crate lumber. The four roof boards are cut with compound angle cuts with the miter gage set at 50¾° and the saw blade tilted at 24°. All cuts are made with one miter gage setting by flopping the piece as shown in Photo No. 2.

The house sides we also made with compound miter cuts. The miter gage is set at 80¼° and the saw blade tilted 44¼°, see Photo No. 3. Assemble the roof and house sides with waterproof glue and ¾" brads. Fasten the roof assembly to the house with 1¼" 17 gage common wire nails.

Three 5/16" vent holes are bored at the top of each house side piece 5/16" from the top edge 15/16" apart, see drawing. The 15/16" entrance hole is bored in one of the house side pieces 3½" from the bottom.

For easy cleaning, screw fasten the bottom to the house sides with four #4 x 1¼ flat head brass screws.

No sending is necessary. Finish the entire house with creosote and, if desired, cover the roof boards with 15 lb. tar paper for added protection. A #110 screw eye fastened in the center of the roof will hold the house by a piece of 18 gage copper wire twisted around a tree limb.		 Bill of Materials

The four roof boards are made with compound miters. These are cut on the cirular saw with the miter gage set at 50¾° and the saw blade tilted ot 24°. To prevent the stock from creeping while cuttingo a Delta No. 865 clamp attachment is used.

House side boards are also cut with compound miters. The miter gage is set at 80¼° and the saw Vacle tilted at 44¼°. The top and bottom can be bevel cut as indicated in the drawing but is not necessory.
