Whirligig plan

After much trial and error on my part, I now have an awesome cardinal whirligig. Thanks for the plan.

cardinal plans

Pros: Plans easy to follow. Finished whirligig looks great.

Cons: Wings are harder than the plans let on

Plans are easy to follow and the completed cardinal looks great. The issue I had was that the wings are much harder than the plans let on. The toughest part is getting the wings thin enough, they need to be less than 1/4 inch think and probably closer to 1/8. I have a cheaper scroll saw, so cutting the wings was slow and time consuming. I finally have a decent working whirligig after the 3rd attempt on the wings. My next set of wings will use a different approach - a square hub with 45 degree slots and flat 1/8 inch wings, an easier approach for those of us with less experience and Harbor Freight type tools. I am sure the wings can be cut out easier with better equipment.
