These mini-shapes can be used in country style craft projects. This page will deal mainly with detailing these small shapes. Of course, they may be decoratively painted if you have the skill, but there are other useful techniques too. Try dipping the pieces in stain and then painting a single detail such as a heart or design over the stain. Dip the pieces in a wash (thinned paint that is opaque similar to stain) and paint detail lines or use a permanent ink felt pen or paint pen. Try an antique finish by painting the plaque a light color and when dry, lightly wipe with a dark stain to age the paint. See the patterns for more options.

A scarecrow (also called a hay-man) is a decoy or mannequin in the shape of a human, usually dressed in old clothes and placed in gardens to discourage birds from feeding on recently sown seed or growing crops. We enjoy making holiday designs to decorate doors and walls. We developed this layered project to make it easy to paint all the parts separately, then simply glue them together. This technique gives the project more depth than a one board project. You decide how you want to make it!
