These mini-shapes can be used in country style craft projects. This page will deal mainly with detailing these small shapes. Of course, they may be decoratively painted if you have the skill, but there are other useful techniques too. Try dipping the pieces in stain and then painting a single detail such as a heart or design over the stain. Dip the pieces in a wash (thinned paint that is opaque similar to stain) and paint detail lines or use a permanent ink felt pen or paint pen. Try an antique finish by painting the plaque a light color and when dry, lightly wipe with a dark stain to age the paint. See the patterns for more options. Beginner skill level.
The Country-Mini shapes may be grouped together to make larger scenes. Since birds flock together, these Geese are a great subject for groupings. The grouping does not have to be of similar designs, so do not be afraid to try a barn yard scene with Cow, Pig, Chicken, etc. or maybe a childs project with a mix of Gingerbread Men and Teddy bears. The basic scene is created on a base as shown below, but we have decorated things like coat racks with a row of brightly colored shapes and have even made mobiles with these small designs.
Our Country and Folk Art patterns may be used exactly as presented but we intend them to be suggestions. By mixing and matching the shapes, projects and your individual skills in painting, wood burning, decals, etc. you can create an unlimited number of decorative projects! Most of these designs my be cut from 1/4 inch stock for applique, 1/2 or 3/4 inch stock for plaque-type projects and 1-1/2 inch thick stock for free standing projects. They may be dipped in paint, stain or a wash (thinned paint that has an appearance between paint and stain) or finely detail to fit your project and skills.
Mix and match these two patterns and the project ideas with our other Country/Primitive Patterns pages! Do not be afraid to experiment! Cut plaques from 1/8 inch stock and paint Black to use as Silhouette Appliques on larger projects.
