This is a simple to make toy that is great fun. The blade assembly is placed in the launcher - the end of an 18 inch piece of strong twine is inserted in the blade dowel and the string is wound around the dowel by turning the blades clockwise. Racks or Peg Bars are very popular and excellent projects if you sell your work! We have laid out a sample bar, but it may be longer or wider as you choose. You may also have two horses or other shapes facing each other if you want to more than double the length of the rack. The shape (the horse in this design) and the rack may be cut from a single piece, but we prefer to make each part and assemble with glue.
Layering is simply breaking down some of the detail lines on a plaque into separate pieces and assembling the pieces with glue to form the entire project. This Rocking Horse is an obvious example, but the technique may be used to decorate or improve many other designs too.

These mini-shapes can be used in country style craft projects. This page will deal mainly with detailing these small shapes. Of course, they may be decoratively painted if you have the skill, but there are other useful techniques too. Try dipping the pieces in stain and then painting a single detail such as a heart or design over the stain. Dip the pieces in a wash (thinned paint that is opaque similar to stain) and paint detail lines or use a permanent ink felt pen or paint pen.
