Birdhouses

Marilyn got the idea for this at a you-paint ceramics store that had a ceramic purse/vase. I did the design and all the building and she did all the hard work of making it a piece of art. We think you will like this little project.

This is another very simple project when pre-cut pieces are used. All parts are cut from 3/4 inches pine planking scraps. The bottom is held in place with two 1-1/2 long counter-sink screws. Use the diagrams to cut out all pieces to the specified sizes.

The front gable is open, entrance to the room below being through the rear of the upper floor. This house can be opened for cleaning by lifting out the upper floor.

The flicker birdhouse shown in figure 23 is designed to be placed on a post or the stub of a tree. The roof can be lifted in the same way that a stopper is removed from a bottle.

This birdhouse is so easy to make from scraps, it would be a great afternoon project to make with the kiddos!

A birdhouse suitable for members of the woodpecker family and also for nuthatches and titmice, including chickadees.

With only a few tools and some cedar, you can build this modern birdhouse.

Roof and house sides of the wren house are made of either inch or 5/16 inches apple crate lumber. The four roof boards are cut with compound angle cuts with the miter gage set at 50 degrees and the saw blade tilted at 24 degrees. All cuts are made with one miter gage setting by flopping the piece as shown in Photo No. 2.

The three wren houses shown here may be used as the hanging type or placed on a post.

Bluebirds and wrens, as well as swallows, nest in this style of house though they prefer a deeper cavity.

This is a small and simple bird house suitable for the junior woodcrafter.

Start with good, clean (no paint or stains or chemicals) real solid wood (aged exterior plywood seems to be ok), preferably old stuff that has had some use and is rough.
