This updated and completely revised publication follows an exhaustive study by the author in collaboration with research institutions and engineers on structural timber design applied to wooden boat construction. The designs included are appropriate for inshore and coastal fisheries and emphasis has been placed on relative ease of construction and minimum wastage of timber.
The genesis of this design grew out of my experience with my Michalak Sportdory. Sportdory is a wonderful rowing boat, but it is a little too long and heavy to be car-topped easily. It is also a little too tiddly for fishing to be relaxing.

The humblest boat in the collection is definitely boat number 11 on plate 48, the Ekstock. This boat is also the only one with a flat bottom, flat sides and flat transoms. Ekstock is Swedish for punt, literally oak log. So the boat is a traditional Scandinavian punt.
The Qivitoq is an Inuit-style Sea Kayak, and was heavily based on native design. The original inspiration came from the Chewonki Kayak. That article and others on Greenland type kayaks were the foundation.
