Rocking Horse, Victorian The overall length is 69”, height to the top of the head is 39”, height to the top of the seat is 33” and the width at the widest part of the rockers is 17”. Our Victorian Rocking Horse plan is based on a centuries old classic from England. Unlike the English design, no carving is required on this project. The horse can be constructed as a decorator for the parlor or as a functional rocking horse with a long graceful rock. Children adore this product. The unique bow rockers feature the traditional boat-like format. Several options are offered with the plan including using real horse hair and a leather English riding saddle. Sources are listed for the accessories. There are also patterns for making the mane and tail in wood. Only general woodworking techniques and tools are needed. A great Christmas morning gift.
|
Rocking Horse, Armor 54” high to the top of the pole, 40” to the top of the head and 30” to the seat. Rockers are 52” long and 17” wide. Rousing tales of the Knights of the Roundtable and Sir Lancelot inspired this all-wood, medieval design. The project is packed with fine wood detailing including crests, banners and lions. The splash of color is not created with paint but with colorful and readily available domestic and exotic hardwoods. The plan outlines instructions for building the armor-clad horse, shield, sword, battle axe and the jousting pole stand with supporting sabers on the base. The finished rocking horse is intended to be a display piece but with modifications, supervised children can ride.
|
Rocking Horse, Dinosaur (PDF) You can dig up all the material you need at a local home center or lumber yard to put together this prehistoric project. Even your child can help in the construction because all part outlines are shown in full-size on the plan. Simply trace the parts to pine lumber, cut out with a saber or jig saw and assemble with glue and wood screws. A color scheme of green for the body, yellow for the rocker stand and eyes, red for the neck and tail “plates” and blue for the seat and handle bar is suggested, but you may also use semi-transparent stains to let the wood grain show through. The dinosaur is sized for toddlers to six-year-olds. This 1.57MB PDF has 17 pages with full pattern templates that you can print onto 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper and easily match together to build this woodworking project.

Rocking Horse, Traditional (PDF) Even the most rambunctious rider will enjoy this spirited steed. It is built from 2-inch thick pine lumber with yarn mane and tail and leather ears - much like the old-fashioned rocking horses. Rocking Horse, Carousel No carving is required. Authentic looking classic Merry-go-rounds horses. 34” long x 27” high at the seat x 16” wide. A sales leader and a classic style like on the grand Carousels of the 1800s. Nearly all wood with white ash, walnut, padauk and purple heart shown. The natural wood colors can be deceptive, as those who see it may assume it’s painted. An oval mirror is set off with scrollwork on the rockers. Turning (not essential) can enhance the spacers between rockers and on the round finial on the pole. Add colored ribbons if wanted. Can be ridden if modified with a metal pole. A splendid addition for interior designs and a great prop for photographers shooting children’s portraits. An audio module can be added to simulate horse whinnies.

Rocking Horse Don’t show this plan to anyone under the age of 10... unless you’ve got some shop time blocked out. But I’m always amazed at the interest and opinions adults have concerning children’s toys. I’ve wanted to make a rocking horse for a long time, but trying to come up with a rocking horse that all the adults liked was almost impossible.
