All of your magazines will be kept neatly and conveniently in this magazine rack. With 3/4 and 1/4 inch thick lumber, construction is simple. 15-1/2 inches long, 10-1/8 inches broad, and 14-1/2 inches tall are the final project dimensions. This woodworking design includes instructions, exploded view diagrams, and full-size drawings for the projects.

Sand perfect round-end cutouts on your drill press or spindle sander. When forming cutouts like those used in handle pulls, the cutout edges must be sanded. To get consistent results, here is a simple guide you can make in a hurry. You can make one to fit any size sanding drum.
A sanding drum makes quick work of smoothing an edge profile rough-cut with a jig saw. You might think you need a drill press or spindle sander to keep the sanded edges square to the surface, but a corded electric drill, shop scraps, a few dollars worth of hardware, and a set of inexpensive sanding drums will do the trick too.
Here is a chance to hone both your spindle and faceplate turning skillsâand if you are lucky, get a tasty treat for your efforts. To prevent screw holes, we used a four-jaw chuck when turning the base. If you do not have such a chuck, a faceplate will do, but use the short screws that will not poke through the top of the base.
Early New Englanders adopted the drop leaf table in an effort to make their furniture less cumbersome. The wing supports gradually took on a faint resemblance to the graceful wings of a butterfly, and from this basic form of construction came scores of modifications in small tables. The one shown here is simplicity itself, yet attractive and at home in almost any setting.
This is a project gone wild due to a lathe in the shop. What happens when you try to build what could have been a simple kitty condo in a shop with a new lathe? 18 columns, a total of 158 beads and 19 balls, among other spindle fanciness, highlight the excesses resulting from a near total lack of design control. Let is hope the cats are impressed.
Whether you need a double, queen, or king, this bed fits the bill, and does so in grand style. By simply changing the dimensions of a few parts and the quantity of spindles, as specified in the Material...

I was recently repairing a chair of the type with the arching back and a series of spokes or spindles going from the seat to the arch. The chair was missing one of the spindles, so had to make a new one. I did not think turning such a long and thin spindle on a lathe would be a good idea, and carving one out with a spokeshave would have taken too long to get it right. So I thought up a neat method of doing it on a jointer.
A Bear Cub swinging cradle to gently rock the little ones to sleep. Tray on one side holds babyâs essentials for nap time care. Can be built from 3/4 inch pine (order twenty birch spindles) or from oak
The Concord Table, also known as the candle stand table, is a traditional American Favorite. Our version lends itself to being a gift project because, by using a lathe duplicator, you can easily produce multiple spindles.
This classic Arts and Crafts furniture piece uses easy, straightforward construction methods, like wide rails from the rear to front legs instead of the typical multitude of spindles. So there will not be near as many mortise drilling as usual. And the gentle curves of the wide arms is easily achieved with a shop made jig you will make.. we show show you all the how-to details.
This cradle rocks smoothly and quietly on ball bearing glider brackets. Pictured in pine with birch spindles. Patterns drawn FULL SIZE. Buy the plan separately here, or buy the plan and kit in two sty...
This wooden wishing well is relatively easy to construct using common size lumber and will be the feature in any garden or yard. The wishing well is almost 900mm (3ft)in diameter and stands almost 2400mm (8ft) high. Most of the well is constructed out of surfaced (dressed) 100x50 (2x4) lumber. The exceptions are the roof boards which are from 150x25mm (1x6inch) stock, and the spindle/handle and washers/handle arm which are from 25x25mm (1x1inch) and 100x25mm (1x4inch) stock respectively. The diameter and height of the well can easily be changed if so required. The diameter (well width) can made bigger or smaller by simply adding or subtracting the number of palings (vertical wall members) around the cylindrical base. The height can be altered by making the two extended palings (roof supports) either longer or shorter.
This handy table helps you in three important ways. First, it has a dust-collection port for capturing fine dust before it becomes airborne....
You can convert your drill press to an oscillating sander for less than $30.
The plant stand shown is a fairly traditional project and quite simple. It consists of three spindle-turned legs, and a bandsawn top section. Since you will be duplicating on the lathe you can use a lathe duplicator, such as the Craftsman Copy Crafter, or make a template to follow. Scroll down the page at this link to find the plant stand.
The shaving horse is a simple foot-operated vice that allows you to hold a piece while having both hands free to work. A shaving horse is relatively easy to build and extremely useful to anyone who uses hand tools to shape spindles for turning, chair legs, barrel staves, shingles, and the like. It is traditionally used with a drawknife or spokeshave, but can be adapted for use with other tools.
