We have found that this particular house is very popular with the Red Squirrels in our yard. We always put out a couple just so the Squirrels will leave the other birdhouses alone and not chew the entrance holes to enlarge them. Finches and some Sparrows prefer a 2 inch diameter entrance hole 4 inch to 5 inch above the floor and a body cavity of approx. 6 x 6 x 6 inch high. These flowers are a simple project for window boxes, indoor planters or in the yard. Cut the leaves and flower from 3/4 inch pine. You may use a 3/8 inch diameter dowel as the stem, but we prefer steel strap or band.
