  •  Chair, Adirondack
This Adirondack chair is certainly one of the more comfortable chair designs around and looks good on any deck or in any garden.
  •  Chair, Adirondack (PDF)
The Adirondack chair originated at the camps and resorts of New York’s Adirondack mountains during the late 1800s. It was the solution to adding a little comfort while in the wilderness, and has become an outdoor classic. This version, like its forebears, is designed for maximum comfort with a deep seat, spacious arms and a slanted back. When you want to take a nap, just pull up the matching footrest. When summer’s gone, you can fold up both the chair and footrest for easy moving and storage.
  •  Shelter, Adirondack-Type (PDF)
    Design plans for a 13 x 16 ft three-sided shelter on a cement slab.
  •  Chair, Adirondack (PDF)
This chair is lean and low, but the most unusual design feature is the offset arms—making it easier to get in and out of. Now, before you dismiss this as a quirky choice, hear me out.
  •  Chair, Adirondack (PDF)
The distinctive Adirondack chair takes its name from the high country in upstate New York in the US. Made from hardwood timber, it’s a lawn chair which features a combined seat support and back leg, giving it the lines that just make you want to put it under a tree, grab a book and a nice long drink and forget the world around you. While they are fun to make, they can be a little fiddly and some experience in woodwork would be a great help.
  •  Footstool, Adirondack (PDF)
This simple footstool has been put to many uses in our backyard. We have used it to accompany our Garden Sofa and our Adirondack Chair. Great as a footrest, it also provides a handy surface for a stack of magazines or a pitcher of iced tea. And if things get crowded, this nifty footstool can double as an extra seat.
  •  Sofa, Adirondack (PDF)
We have made many Adirondack chairs over the years and thought it would be neat to have one that was just a bit larger. So this time we built a good-sized bench. Whether you share the bench with a friend or stretch out on it all by yourself, you will enjoy the traditional Adirondack shape.
  •  Chair, Adirondack - and Table (PDF)
It’s a good thing that so many plastic patio chairs are designed to stack, and the aluminum ones fold up flat. That means we can get them put away and stored out of sight as quickly as possible. But, if you think outdoor furniture should enhance your yard and garden, consider a chair that evolved on the porches of summer homes and resorts of upstate New York. It’s an object that no one will want to hide, because it simply looks so good: the Adirondack chair.
  •  Chair, Adirondack - with footstool
Adirondack chair and footstool. Homemade patio furniture is an excellent weekend project to complement a deck or patio.
  •  Chair, Adirondack - and Loveseat
This chair and love seat combo is just perfect for outdoor lounging. The seat has a nice curved recess to conform to your body, and wide arms to hold your favorite snack and drink. And because the seat doesn’t slope steeply downward like on a traditional Adirondack chair, even your grandfather will be able to help himself out without a boost.

  •  Adirondack Chair and Ottoman
This Adirondack Chair and Ottoman combination is a favorite with people who like to put their feet up when relaxing outside. This plan is a favorite with woodworkers and summerime loungers, and with good reason. For woodworkers, this simple project can be built with basic tools and materials. The chair is constructed from dimensional, rough-sawn cedar, which has one smooth face and one rough face (readily available at home centers and lumber yards). The chair is built using only a jigsaw, a drill, some woodscrews, and a bit of construction adhesive. For summertime loungers, the chair has a comfortable, contoured seat and back. And the ottoman lets you stretch out your legs and really unwind. To complete your comfy place in the sun, you may want to build the optional table (plans included). The overall size of the chair is 32” wide x 35-1/2” deep x 40-3/4” high. The chair in the photo was made of cedar and finished with penetrating oil to preserve the wood’s natural color. But we include guidelines for additional finish with a good coat of primer and paint.
  •  Adirondack Furniture
Whether you make it from redwood or painted pine, our Adirondack Furniture is the perfect summer project. Straightforward joinery (glue and screw) and a comfortable design are bound to make this traditional outdoor furniture your favorite to build and to use. The Chair and Settee are designed with a contoured seat and slightly angled back. The angle we use lets you rest naturally. But once you’re settled, it’s not difficult to get back out. The overall size of the Adirondack Chair is 31-3/4” wide x 38-3/4” high x 37” deep. The Settee is 52-3/4” wide x 38-3/4” high x 37” deep. The Patio Table is 20-3/4” wide x 46-3/4” long x 16” high. Build them from pine, redwood, or cedar. Joinery is a combination of construction adhesive and brass or stainless outdoor woodscrews.
